Today on the occasion of “Gudhi Padwa” I made Puran poli is an Indian sweet flatbread. Puran poli is made from cheakpea, Plain flour (wheat flour), Jaggery or Cane Sugar, Cardamompowder and/or Nutmeg powder, Ghee and Water. The method of preparation varies from place to place.
It is also the special dish of Maharashtra which is prepared on every occasion at every house especially during festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi and Holi. In Pune ( my hometown) It is eaten with a variant of Amti (flavored sour water) known as Katachi Amti is prepared with the remaining water of cheakpeas used to make Puran ( sweet stuffing for flat bread)
A topping of ghee on flat bread is must, because cheakpeas are heavy to digest and ghee eases to digest.
Gudhi Padwa is a spring-time festival that marks the traditional new year for Marathi Hindus. It is celebrated in and near Maharashtra, India 🇮🇳 on the first day of the Chaitra month to mark the beginning of the New year according to the lunisolar Hindu calendar.
About Gudhi –
Photo from Wikipedia
A notable sight during Gudhi Padwa are the numerous Gudhi arrangements at every household. It is a bright colorful silk scarf-like cloth tied at the top of a long bamboo. On top of it, one or more boughs of neem leaves and mango leaves are attached along with a garland of flowers. This arrangement is capped with a silver, bronze or copper pot (kalash). The whole arrangement is hoisted outside each household, typically to the right, or through a window or terrace. It is visible to everybody.
Happy Gudhi Padwa to all my Maharashtrian friends!
And to all my overseas friends hope you enjoyed my description about The festive special food plate and the festival.
I will be participating in Canson North America the #togetherwithart challenge whenever possible – a daily art challenge from now through April 23.⠀
Here is a heart full of rainbow 🌈 birds for todays prompt.
WHAT IT IS⠀
► Each day you’ll be given a prompt. Create art related to that prompt in any medium (swipe to see prompt list).⠀
► Each piece should also incorporate a heart into it.⠀
WHY A HEART:⠀
The heart in each piece is symbolic of solidarity and hope during this difficult time. It can represent support you want to show to loved ones, healthcare workers, those dealing with stress and anxiety, or anything else personal to you. You can share in your caption what the heart means to you, or keep it to yourself and know the symbol has meaning. ⠀
You can read more about it on their Instagram page @cansonpaper_nothamerica.
